David Daniel Wernecke

On Tuesday, February 7, David D. Wernecke, a beloved father of two, passed away at the age of sixty-four. A Funeral Service will be held on February 19, 2023, 1:00pm, at The Christian Church White City 301 Adolph St, White City, Kansas. Burial to follow.

David was born to Charles and Violet Wernecke in Council Grove, Kansas. He was raised in Salina, Kansas where he spent most of his youth and joined the Army National Guard. He graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts and went on to become an Internal Financial Auditor for most of his career. Working at various companies throughout Central US including Emporia and Topeka, Kansas, Sioux Falls, Iowa, before settling in Shawnee, Kansas.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gun enthusiast.  He enjoyed traveling which he was able to do through his work but again for leisure when he learned to scuba dive.  He spent time in Europe, Germany, and Australia. Diving the Great Barrier Reef, Key West, Florida and Hawaii. He was an outdoor enthusiast taking up bird and wildlife watching from his back porch in Shawnee, KS.
