Delbert Ray Thomas, born on September 20, 1963, passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2025 at his home. He was born at the old Junction City hospital to Charles and Norma Thomas.
He attended schools in Chapman, Junction City, and White City. He attended a truck driving school where he met Carla Dispensa and they married on November 22, 1993. They were team drivers for several years. They separated and Delbert continued driving trucks.
After quitting driving over the road, Delbert drove for Hallocen transporting railroaders to different terminals. He had some medical issues and decided he couldn't risk other people’s lives doing that anymore. The last couple of years he helped local farmers during harvest, drove the "Party Bus" for local White City residents, delivered meals and volunteered at the White City Senior Center. He also became a member of the Sons of the American Legion with the White City American Legion, where he enjoyed helping with bingo and the breakfasts.
He was preceded in death by his brother Marty in September 1966, his half-brother Albert in August 1985, his dad in February 2009, Carla in March 2014, and his mom in June 2018. He was also preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Delbert leaves behind his sister Jeannie (Harold) Buckbee, Aunts Beverly, Ruth, Linda, Sandy, Marilyn (Mel), Uncle Alvin (Bud), numerous cousins and friends. He is also survived by step kids Talia (Dave) Clark and family, and Jason (Kim) Dispensa and family.
There will be a graveside inurnment at a later date for family and close friends. Memorial contributions made be made to Jeannie Buckbee to help offset final expenses and sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846
