Laurel Gale Zimmerman, of Alta Vista, Kansas passed away on October 14, 2022. at the age of 78.
Laurel was born on April 13, 1944, in Junction City, Kansas, to Lawrence “Ike” and Vida Zimmerman. He grew up in Alta Vista and graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1962. Laurel was drafted into the United States Army in 1968; he served in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, among other honors. He helped to found Danenberg Jewelers in Manhattan, Kansas in 1966, serving as a salesman, manager, and accountant for over 55 years.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and served as an elder and Bible study leader for most of his adult life. Laurel loved God, his family, and his friends above all else.
Laurel was preceded in death by both his parents and his younger brother, Noel. He is survived by his younger brother, Del Zimmerman, of Valrico, Florida, sister-in-law Brenda Zimmerman, of Topeka, Kansas, two nieces, two nephews, a great-nephew and a great-niece. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and customers.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta Vista, Kansas on November 11th at 11 a.m.
