Margaret Louise (Thayer) Service age 92, passed peacefully February 13, 2025 at her home in Overbrook, Kansas.
Margaret (Marge) was born November 5, 1932, in Bigelow, KS, to Wilfred Edward and Esther May (Lolley) Thayer. Marge was married to Donald F. Nixon April 24, 1951. Four children were born of this union: Charles, Katherine, John and Donna.
This marriage later ended in divorce. Marge married Patrick Whitney Service October 18, 1976.
Marge worked for the Selective Service many years and finished her working career with the GE Transmission Shop in Kansas City. She loved crocheting and making afghans for her grandchildren and scrubbies for family and friends. She enjoyed camping, boating and fishing with her husband Patrick. Her children and grandchildren were her life. Marge made every attempt to attend their sporting events and school activities. She also had a very special bond with her furbabies. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Council Grove, Kansas.
Marge is survived by her four children: Charles Edward Nixon (Clara), of Chanute, KS, Kay Marie Taylor (Stephen), of Council Grove, John Allen Nixon (Jody), and Donna Louise Nixon, both of Overbrook, KS; 11 grandchildren: Leanne Schweisberger (Steven), Donald, Daniel and Lurina Nixon, Lauri Carlson (Justin), Joseph (Teresa) and Eric Taylor, Jeremy Nixon (Chelsea), April Cable, Christy and Joshua Nixon. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren: Ambriel and Austin Hiner, Matthew, Michael, Jonathan, William and Elizabeth Nixon: Vanessa Bronn, Jordan, Lauren, and Mija Carlson; Stephen, Skyler and Carly Taylor; Breanna, Logan and Harper Nixon, Kaylee, Tucker, and Rhett Cable; and 3 great-great grandchildren: Lily, Karter and Holden; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; parents Wilfred & Esther Thayer; sisters, Edna May Parthemer and Evelyn Marie Kotel; one grandson and one great grandson.
A visitation is planned from 10 – 11am, Monday, February 17, 2025, with funeral service beginning at 11:00, at First Baptist Church with the burial following at Sunny Slope Cemetery.
