Marjorie Hope Hailey

Marjorie Hope Hailey, of Council Grove, Kansas died June 2, 2022, at Diversicare of Council Grove.  She was born October 7, 1923, to James and Nellie (Hinshaw) Hudson in Wilsey, Kansas, where grew up in the area and graduated.

She married Waldo E. Hailey on May 19, 1953, in Wilsey. They lived on the Hailey family farm just North of there. Marjorie taught at Olive Branch Grade School, a one room school just North of Wilsey. Marjorie finished her degree at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, earning her bachelor’s degree.

She worked at the Morris County Court House as a social worker, before working at KP&L, where she retired in 1988, after 17 years of service. She was a member of the American Cancer Society, Federated Nautilus Club and Delta Kapa Gama.

Marjorie was extremely active in church attendance.  She attended Wilsey Christian, Pleasant Ridge and Community Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and she was diligent in Bible Study. She had a very strong faith in God and shared it with others during Bible Study.

She enjoyed clipping coupons for church schools. She was active in Wilsey Yearly Alumni Meetings and served as President and Treasurer. Marjorie was known for her quick recall of all names of the alumni present at the meetings.

Marjorie and Waldo retired in Council Grove.  Waldo passed away on May 13, 1991. Marjorie moved to Neosho Plaza then to Assisted Living.  She later moved to Diversicare, where remained exceptionally mentally sharp until her death at the age of 98.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her siblings: Eula Hunter, Keith Hudson and Vincent Hudson.  She is survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Wilsey Cemetery later.
