Phillip Dean Burnett

Phillip “Phil” Dean Burnett, 73 of Wilsey, Kansas, passed away on May 20, 2024, at his home.

Phil was born in Council Grove Kansas, May 2, 1951, to Kenneth and Betty (Fuqua) Burnett. He attended Four Mile School and graduated from Council Grove High School in 1969. Phil enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971 and served eight years achieving the rank of Staff Sargent. He attended the University of Southern Colorado and Emporia State University. Phil worked for IBP, Zachry Industrial Inc, and Hastco before returning to Wilsey and working for Diversicare of Council Grove.

Phil enjoyed sharing a drink with his friends or sitting by the fire with his dog Sadie, smoking a good cigar.  His children remember him as a loving father, who was always there for them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Randy Burnett and his granddaughter Brooklynn Faith Burnett. Phil is survived by his children: Lori Hickey (Christopher) of Emporia; Wayne Burnett of Sparkman, AR; sisters: Pam Gentry of Mableton, GA and Alice Crowley of Emporia; and grandson Taylor Hickey (Alexandria) of Evans, CO.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held June 22, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Harry and Lloyd’s in Americus.
