Ruth Marie Sollner passed away October 28, 2022, at the age of 92. She was born on November 19, 1929, at Hymer, Kansas, to William and Mary (Ramsey) Hailey. She attended grade school at Hymer, Kansas in a two-room schoolhouse. She graduated from Elmdale High School with the class of 1947. She met her husband Paul at a food basket auction while attending a community supper at the Hymer Grade School. He bought her food basket with a homemade pie. They started dating and were married on October 24, 1948. They had 68 wonderful years together. Paul passed away April 28, 2017. She is survived by her only child, son Thomas Paul, wife Deanna (Starkey) and grandson Jacob and lots of nieces and nephews. Proceeding her in death were her parents, four brothers Austin, Charles “Bud”, William “Bill”, and Alvin and five sisters Margaret McPhail, Grace Smith, Jane Miller, Dorothy Hailey, and Dottie Olsen. Ruth was the last of the ten siblings to pass. She lived on Diamond Creek all her life. She enjoyed cooking for her family, working in the garden and canning all the vegetables and fruit, mowing the yard, and feeding birds and squirrels. She also enjoyed watching all the wild turkeys and deer that came into the yard. She spent time crocheting and knitting afghans, sweaters and other pretty articles and quilting a couple of Christmas quilts, baby blankets and hand-sewing on numerous dish towels for gifts. Ruth was an avid Kansas City Royals fan. She liked to help Paul farm by raking the hay as he baled it, feeding the livestock, helping at harvest with the soybeans and wheat and later in life, cleaning the farrowing house every morning while raising swine. A typical farm wife.
