Shareen Lea Johnson

Shareen Lea Johnson, 77 of Council Grove, Kansas entered peacefully into the loving arms of our heavenly Father on February 12, 2025. She was born on March 4, 1947, at the old Morris County Hospital in Council Grove, Kansas to Frankie Erwin Prather and Verta Lucille (Smith) Prather. Shareen grew up in Council Grove and graduated from Council Grove High School in 1965. Shareen made many lasting memories with her childhood friends and classmates. She was a little bit of a competitive tomboy and played a few sports, especially baseball one of her dad’s favorites. She participated in church Christmas programs, one year she and her friend were Angels. Shareen’s mother hand made their satin robes and beautiful wings. Shareen loved swimming and hanging out with friends at the city lake. She also enjoyed spending time at the local swimming pool and was a member of the swim team. She loved singing and dancing, several of her friends shared she sang at their wedding ceremonies. She was one of the first dance students to be taught by Jill Fitzgerald and she performed numerous dance numbers including duets with friends. During high school she was a Drum Majorette and played a flute in the band. She was also a member of Jobs Daughters a youth organization she was able to be in because her father was a Mason. Shareen briefly attended Kansas State University.

Not long after that she married Gary V. Johnson of Dwight, Kansas. Together they lived on the family farm where Shareen was a teacher’s aide at Dwight Grade School and prepared meals for the hired help as well as ran farm errands and helped as needed. They also lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado while Gary was in the National Guards. Shareen loved living in Colorado. Soon after returning to Dwight their daughter Kristen was born, then a son Bryce, and another son Chandler. They later divorced and Shareen returned to Council Grove. She then attended Crum’s Beauty School in Manhattan, Kansas and graduated in 1977. Quickly after graduation, she opened and operated her own hair salon Shareen’s Hair Designs for 30+ years while she raised her children. She was very talented at her trade. Numerous clients have shared through the years she was the only one that could really do their hair style the way they wanted it and liked it. She later became a private caregiver for the elderly.

Not only was she creative and talented at many things. She was genuine and cared about her family and friends. She loved life and she loved the lord. Shareen was a member of the Church of Christ Christian Church then became a member of the Community Christian Church both in Council Grove. She was incredibly proud of her family and especially her grandchildren. She loved being Mimi as they called her and felt very fortunate to help care for them and be involved in their lives. When she was no longer able to attend activities, she saved newspaper clippings of their many events and kept them in a special spot on her wall to admire. She also enjoyed receiving updates on all their activities through family and friends.

Shareen is survived by her children Kristen Johnson of Council Grove, Kansas, Chandler Johnson and wife Janon of White City, Kansas, her grandchildren Haven Pearson, Springfield Oregon, Chancy Johnson, Manhattan, Kansas, Aspen Pearson, Council Grove, Kansas, Bricelynn Pearson Council Grove, Kansas, and Colter Johnson, White City, Kansas.
