A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 4, for Steven Hughes, 50, Council Grove, Kansas, who died after a battle with cancer, on December 8, 2023.
The service will be held at Lull Meadows, 1134 Highway 177, north of Council Grove, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
, followed by lunch. His life will be celebrated during the afternoon. Please feel free to wear casual dress, including camouflage as Steve was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, plus an Arkansas Razorback fan.
Steve was the maintenance supervisor at Diversicare in Council Grove for over 20 years.  He and his wife, Larissa, own and operate The Local in Alta Vista.  It will be closed the day of the service.  
Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Trey (Ricki) and Noah; his grandchildren Kasen, Madalynn and Alexis; his parents, Claude and Sharlotte Hughes; his sister, Tara Hughes, and niece Kaylee Burton; his sister-in-law Elisha Bacon (Mike), nephew Hadley Smith; and his in-laws, Gloria and Sheldon Smith, along with many other family members and friends.

Steve was born August 24, 1973, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to Claude Everette and Sharlotte (Hardin) Hughes. He attended elementary and junior high school in Pine Bluff, and after moving to Kansas attended junior high and high school in Marion, Kansas.

Steve and Larissa Smith were married in Las Vegas on April 13, 1999.
He was maintenance supervisor at Diversicare in Council Grove for over 20 years. He and his wife, Larissa, own and operate The Local in Alta Vista, Kansas.
